PLENARY SPEAKERS
JOHN LO - "Walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit" (Friday Night, 3/16/2012)
The Holy Spirit initiates Jesus’ conception, catalyzes Jesus’ ministry and is the precipitating event for the beginning of the church. Because we cannot do the work of Jesus without the power of the Holy Spirit, walking in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit is a requirement for all Christ-followers. What does this mean biblically, theologically and practically? Pastor John will lay a path down for all believers to grow in this key spiritual practice.
John Lo is the Senior Pastor of Epicentre Church in Pasadena, CA. Over the years, as he has become increasingly gripped by God’s love for people of all nations, he has become more relentless about unabashedly calling and equipping people to pursue God-sized destinies that will bring God’s Kingdom here on earth. As a visionary leader, John’s primary role is preaching & teaching, leading Epicentre into new initiatives, and igniting strategic apostolic leaders. John, his wife Evelyn, and their son, Josh, live in Glendale, CA, where they enjoy really good sushi, time at the beach and watching Josh swim at his swim meets.

This identity crisis and with serious anger issues, Sabastian landed himself in prison at the age of 19. There he was facing a sixty-six years-to-life sentence in 1989. God intervened, and on July 29, 1990 Sabastian accepted Jesus Christ as his LORD and Savior. He is now the Senior Pastor of Converge Family Church in Garden Grove, CA. Miracles DO happen!

Pauline Settles - "Ethnomusicology: Culture, Music and Mission"
During my college years doing summer short term missions in the mountains of Myanmar and Thailand, I found these tribal kids would sing all day long. But when we taught Sunday school or Bible study, they lost attention really quickly. Is it possible to teach the biblical truths through songs instead? When I served as the worship coordinator at a new church plant in Singapore, I struggled with what kinds of music is most suitable for the new believers. Do I teach them traditional hymns, Cannon hymns or Streams of Praise songs? I started to gain a better understanding after going through a 4-year program at Fuller Theological Seminary doing a Doctor of Missiology program in Ethnomusicology. Join me for this workshop for my presentation of some of the things I’ve learned and also for a discussion of how we can engage culture through utilizing of music in our church and missions context.
